COMMITTEES

Each teacher is a member of one of the following committees which are all dedicated to promoting a safe, nuturing environment for staff, students and parents.

Home-School : This committee strives to actively involve parents in supporting our instructional expectations by providing communications on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Communications used by the teachers include daily journals, weekly folders, monthly newsletters/calendars, conferences, and phone calls. This committee also focuses attention on promoting cultural diversity in the classrooms, helping with parenting issues, and including parents in our academic decision making process whenever possible.

Curriculum:  This committee was established to provide the highest priority to improving and monitoring the curricula and instructional delivery system in grades Pre-K through Fifth. This includes emphasis on quality instruction of the Virginia SOL's, providing support for low-achieving students, and encouraging teaching at each child's instructional level. The committee was also established to create a homework policy that states homework expectations and appropriate time ranges for completion of that homework by grade levels. Parents are encouraged to support this policy by emphasizing the importance and value of homework to their children.

Climate:   This committee was established to meet our mission statement goal of providing a nuturing environment, positive attitudes, and respect for others. This goal was developed for students as well as teachers to promote trust, idea sharing, and sensitivity to students and employee needs. This committee has been instrumental in the improvement of school-wide discipline and positive school climate.
